Meet the experts behind your home build
Ever wondered who are the experts behind your build? There is a myriad of skilled individuals involved and each one plays an important part when it comes to building our quality homes.
To celebrate our people and our valued partnerships with local trades, over the next few months we will be introducing you to some of the amazing individuals we work with at Burbank in our mission to create places for people to call home.
Hear about why they love what they do and why they chose the construction industry.
Meet Adrian, your local Bricklayer.
Adrian is one of our valued bricklayers who helps us with our builds in Victoria’s North and Northeast regions.
He started laying bricks with his father at the age of 8 during his free time on weekends and school holidays. When Adrian left school, he worked with a carpenter for a while but was drawn back to bricklaying as his trade of choice.
“Great brick work stands out, it’s on display every time a homeowner walks up to the home, it can make a home stand out in the street,” says Adrian.
Following in his father’s footsteps Adrian’s son Mark has taken on bricklaying as trade making three generations of bricklayers in the family. Mark won the Master Builders Apprentice Of The Year Award (Brick & Block Laying) in 2021 showing the skill and tenacity it takes to be the best in class.
When we asked Adrian, as the principle in the team, “What advice can you give young people considering Bricklaying as a trade?”
Adrian said: “The more technical the job, the more satisfying it becomes. It is only moderately physical and a great substitute for the gym and maintaining a good level of fitness. It is healthier than most desk jobs.
“Bricklaying is generally done as a team; at times it can become competitive in a good way measuring skill sets amongst each other.
“It is important to work with a good employer that is willing to put the time into developing young workers. It is rewarding when you see your workers develop and eventually build teams of their own.”
